For Android · free, no account needed

Your money, written down for you.

Daybook reads the bank and UPI messages already on your phone and keeps the ledger for you — no typing, no bank login, and nothing leaves the phone unless you turn on sync.

Android 9 or later. Works offline.

What Daybook promises

Nothing to type

Bank, card and UPI messages are read as they arrive — and the ones already in your inbox on day one.

Counted once

The SMS, the bank app’s notification and the UPI app’s notification are one payment, not three.

Stays on your phone

No account, no server, no bank login. Daybook works in flight mode. The cloud is optional and paid.

The daybook

A book of original entry, kept the way an accountant would.

A daybook is where transactions are written down as they happen, before they go anywhere else. Daybook does that for you, then sorts out the parts that make most expense trackers wrong.

A privacy gate first

Only messages from banks and payment services that mention an amount are kept. Never OTPs, never texts from people.

Refunds that cancel

A failed or reversed payment cancels the one it refers to, instead of showing up as income.

Categories that learn

Re-file one payment to your local café as “Food” and every one after it is filed for you.

Budgets with a nudge

Monthly limits per category, with an alert before you go over — not after.

Subscriptions, spotted

Repeating charges are picked out so you can see what renews, and when.

Balances that match

Each account reconciles against the balance your bank states in its own messages.

Transfers aren’t spending

Moving money between your own accounts is a transfer, so it never inflates what you spent.

Spent abroad

Foreign-currency charges are converted to rupees at rates you set.

Yours to take away

Full backup to a file, CSV and PDF exports, and bank-statement CSV import.

Privacy

What stays on your phone, and what doesn’t.

On your phone, always

  • Your messages. Daybook reads them; it never uploads them, even with sync on.
  • The ledger itself, in the app’s private storage — the free app has no server at all.
  • Messages that aren’t money: OTPs and texts from people are discarded before anything is saved.

With Daybook Cloud, if you turn it on

  • Your entries — amount, date, merchant, category, notes and tags, the bank’s reference and stated balance, and each account’s last four digits — sent over TLS.
  • Stored on our servers and readable by them, which is what lets the web app search and total. It is not end-to-end encrypted.
  • Never sold, never used for advertising. Delete your account and your ledger is deleted with it; only the payment receipts tax law makes us keep remain.

The full detail, including who processes payments and how long records are kept, is in the privacy policy.

Daybook Cloud

Your ledger on a bigger screen.

Sign in on your phone and Daybook keeps a copy in sync — across your phones and the web app, where month-end review, bulk re-filing and budgets are easier with a keyboard.

  • Edits made anywhere reach every device, and conflicts resolve field by field.
  • A cloud copy, so a lost phone doesn’t mean a lost history.
  • A free trial; no card needed to start.

Questions

Is Daybook really free?

Yes. The Android app is free, with no account, no ads and no limit on how much it records. You only pay if you want Daybook Cloud — sync between phones and the web app.

Do I have to connect my bank account?

No. Daybook never asks for a bank login, net-banking password or account aggregator consent. It only reads the messages your bank already sends to your phone.

Why isn’t it on the Play Store?

Google Play lets only a few kinds of apps read SMS, and an expense tracker is not one of them. So Daybook is downloaded from this site, and you can check the file’s fingerprint before you install it.

Is there an iPhone app?

No. iOS does not let any app read your messages, which is the whole of what Daybook does. With Daybook Cloud you can use the web app from any device, but the capture happens on an Android phone.

With Daybook Cloud, can you see my data?

Your synced ledger is encrypted on its way to us, but it is not end-to-end encrypted: our server can read it, which is what lets the web app search and total it. Your original messages never leave your phone. We do not sell or share your data, and staff access is limited to fixing a problem you report. The privacy policy has the detail.

What happens if I stop paying?

Your phone keeps working exactly as the free app does. In the web app everything stays readable and exportable; editing and sync pause until you subscribe again.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes, from Settings → Plan & billing in the web app, or by cancelling the mandate in your UPI app. You keep what you paid for until the end of that month or year.
